Stingr To Debut Contactless Second-Screen Platform

Stingr, a new venture from the founders of Hornets Tech, will show a contactless second-screen interaction platform during IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14.

The platform lets viewers point a phone at the television and identify the programme within seconds, whether the content is live, catch-up or on demand. Once identified, Stingr delivers shopping links, sponsor material or information tied to that exact moment without QR codes, on-screen prompts or interruption to the broadcast.

Broadcasters can build the functionality into their own apps, preserving the viewer relationship and control over commercial opportunities. Stingr said the approach can support sponsored interactions, product placement, interactive advertising and access to archive material without changing programming or adding on-screen prompts.

The platform also can deliver sign language on demand, synchronized with the program on a second device while leaving the main broadcast unchanged. Stingr noted that feature could help broadcasters and streaming services comply with accessibility requirements introduced under the Media Act 2024.

“In this industry we use the word ‘transformational’ a lot, but this really does have the potential to make a difference,” said Alistair Horne, Stingr co-founder. “It is a way of stimulating revenue directly, under the broadcaster’s control, not somebody else’s.”
