Searcy County joins list of burn bans in the areas

Searcy County is the latest to issue a burn ban in the area. The burn ban in Searcy County was issued Tuesday.

Burn bans are now in effect for Marion, Fulton, Izard, Stone and Searcy counties in north central Arkansas. Several cities have also issued burn bans including Mountain Home.

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture’s wildfire danger map shows the nother central part of the state is listed in the moderate, or two out of a four, category for wildfire. The moderate category means: Fire can start from accidental causes. It may not become serious, but caution should be taken.

Violating a burn ban in Arkansas is a misdemeanor that carries a fine up to $1,000 and jail time up to one year. Violators are frequently held financially responsible for the cost of emergency response services and any property damage incurred if the fire escapes.
