Summertime gardening might not be the thing to do during the excessive heat that the Twin Lakes is experiencing.

However, gardening can still be done if proper precautions are taken.

There is still time to get plants ready for the fall, which Vicki says hopefully will be after this heat wave. In the extreme heat, she offers some suggestions on how to protect your garden

She suggests not planting anything outside for the time being that has not already been acclimated. For planted pots, take them to a shaded area or put them in the house. Repotting a house plant in exteme heat will harm the plant to excess.

For plants like tomatoes that are already in the garden, provide some shade for them, especially at high-noon and water them from the base is Vicki’s advice.
