City of Cotter joins burn bans

As of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Cotter Fire Chief Lyle Jack initiated a city wide burn ban until further notice.

Cotter’s burn ban is added to other Baxter County cities. Currently, Mountain Home, Salesville, Norfork and Flippin are also under burn bans.

Marion County, Fulton County, Izard County and Stone County are all under burn bans as the state is experiencing extremely dry conditions, which has elevated wildfire risks.

The burn bans are focused on protecting the safety of the public and first responders. Wildfires can spread rapidly in the current weather conditions, creating dangerous situations for the communities, firefighters and emergency personnel.

By avoiding outdoor burning, residents can help reduce preventable emergencies by not burning brush, leaves or yard debris or burning in barrels. No recreational fires and no fireworks during the burn ban period, as well.
