Teen charged in fall crash that killed 2 teens in Chisago City

Nearly 10 months after a crash that killed two teenagers and hurt three others, one of the involved teens is now facing criminal charges.

The Chisago County Attorney’s Office announced Friday that it has filed a juvenile petition in connection with the fatal Oct. 25 crash.

The Lakes Area Police Department said the two vehicles collided head-on at around 1:58 a.m. near the area of Stacy Trail and Ivywood Trail.

One vehicle was driven by a 14-year-old, the other by a 17-year-old. That 17-year-old later died at a hospital, as did a 15-year-old passenger in the 14-year-old’s car.

The Chisago Lakes Hockey Association identified the 15-year-old who died as Jax Affolter.

Lakes Area police said the three boys in the 14-year-old’s car had been together at a nearby home before taking that car without the owner’s consent. Investigators found alcohol inside that car but haven’t confirmed if the 14-year-old was under the influence.

Prosecutors have also declined to identify who they’re charging and aren’t releasing any additional details at this time.
