The mid-market sector faces a persistent paradox. The data they generate is as critical as any Fortune 500 company, yet their IT budgets and staffing levels cannot support the complex, expensive infrastructure required to manage it securely. Panzura Express, solves this by providing a single-site edition of the Panzura CloudFS hybrid cloud file platform. This is not just a product update; it is a strategic pivot. It decouples enterprise-grade file services from the rigid constraints of hardware appliances. It makes AI-ready data management accessible to organizations with 100 to 300 employees.
Delivering the full stack as a license, not a box, solves three critical pain points:
- The inability to leverage unstructured data for AI
- The vulnerability to ransomware
- The logistical nightmares of hardware supply chains and maintenance
What Panzura Express Actually Is
Panzura Express is a software-defined network-attached storage (NAS) solution designed for single-site deployments. Unlike legacy NAS, which forces buyers to commit to capacity years in advance, Panzura Express runs on virtual machines (VMs) that organizations already operate, S3-compatible object storage on premises or in any major public cloud, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud.
The offering includes a comprehensive bundle in a single annual license. The solution consists of three components:
- Panzura CloudFS: Provides local high-availability node pairs, SMB and NFS file services, and immutable snapshots
- Panzura Data Services: Delivers file estate search, activity auditing, and AI-powered Threat Control with User Behavior Intelligence (UBI)
- Panzura Nexus: A groundbreaking feature that integrates file data with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Crucially, it maintains permission fidelity, ensuring that AI searches only return data the user is already authorized to see
The solution is available in three capacity tiers—25TB, 50TB, and 100TB—allowing mid-market firms to start small and scale storage capacity by simply adding S3-compatible object storage as needed, rather than replacing entire hardware arrays. The upgrade path beyond 100TB remains unclear. At that point, firms may need to upgrade to the full CloudFS version.
Partners to lead go-to-market
Panzura has withheld pricing, limiting sales to its partner networks. Initially, partners that are accredited to sell the new product include:
- ATG: a US-based leading provider of Software, hardware, services, and support for the AECO industry
- Bechtle: a strategic partner for IT consultancy, services, and implementation across Europe
- Climb Channel Solutions: a global value-added distributor offering innovative technologies backed by a team dedicated to the success of partners
- Graitec: A software company that provides solutions, consulting, training and support for the AECO industry
Panzura Express simplifies the sales and delivery model for partners. Removing hardware complexity eliminates the lead times and logistics that slow deals. Partners can deliver a complete managed file service, including deployment, configuration, and first-line support, without needing deep storage specialization.
Partners can now approach mid-market accounts with a “software conversation” rather than a hardware refresh proposal.
As Carlos Rodrigues, President of North America at Climb Channel Solutions, noted, “Every reseller in our network has mid-market accounts running a NAS two years from refresh that offers nothing against ransomware or insider threats. Panzura Express turns that refresh into a software conversation our partners can start now, without waiting on an increasingly complicated hardware cycle.”
The introduction of the Panzura Partner Portal (registration required) and a dedicated Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator equips partners to demonstrate value immediately. By selling a bundled solution that covers file management, security, and AI intelligence, partners can increase deal size and stickiness while reducing the complexity of managing multiple point solutions for their clients.
Strategic Implications for Panzura
For Panzura, the launch of Express represents a deliberate expansion into a massive, underserved market segment.
Historically, Panzura’s multi-site CloudFS platform was the gold standard for distributed enterprises, but the sales cycle and hardware requirements often excluded smaller organizations. Removing the hardware component eliminates the supply chain bottleneck that has plagued the industry, especially as AI infrastructure buildouts consume available drive and memory capacity.
This move transforms Panzura’s go-to-market strategy. Panzura Express aligns perfectly with the buying patterns of smaller IT teams that prefer agile, “stand-up-in-an-afternoon” solutions over multi-year budget cycles.
Furthermore, by integrating deeply with Microsoft 365 Copilot via Nexus, Panzura positions itself not just as a storage vendor, but as an essential enabler of the AI revolution, ensuring that unstructured file data becomes a usable asset rather than a siloed liability.

Karthik Ramamurthy, CEO, Panzura, stated, “Mid-market organizations have struggled to bring AI to the unstructured file data that runs their business, while also managing and securing that data with limited IT resources.
“Panzura Express delivers all three in one software offering: AI access to file data, enterprise-grade file data management, and built-in ransomware and data loss protection, sized and priced for the way they buy and work.”
Panzura Express will compete directly with other mid-market offerings such as Egnyte. Selling the new product through its channel is a sensible strategy and will leverage relationships those partners have with mid-market firms. This move likely signals an expansion of Panzura’s partner ecosystem.
What This Means for Customers and Prospects
For mid-market organizations, Panzura Express is a game-changer regarding security and AI adoption. According to Verizon’s 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report, ransomware is present in 88% of breaches at small and mid-sized organizations, compared to 39% at large enterprises. And yet, these organizations often cannot afford dedicated storage administrators or complex third-party security stacks.
Panzura Express addresses this by baking enterprise protection directly into the file system.
- Ransomware Resilience: With immutable snapshots taken as frequently as every 60 seconds, organizations can roll back to a clean state almost instantly after an attack.
- AI Readiness: Through Panzura Nexus, companies can use Microsoft 365 Copilot to “ask” questions about their file data. Because the system enforces permissions at the AI level, it eliminates the risk of hallucinations or leaking sensitive data the user shouldn’t see.
- Operational Agility: A small IT team can deploy the solution on existing virtualization infrastructure without waiting for hardware delivery. This transforms storage refresh cycles from a multi-month capital project into a swift software update.
On-demand scaling frees companies from over-provisioning storage “just in case,” freeing up budget for other critical initiatives.
Enterprise Times: What does this mean
Panzura Express is more than a new product; it is a response to the evolving reality of the mid-market. It acknowledges that small and medium businesses face the same cyber threats and AI opportunities as global giants but lack the resources to build the same infrastructure.
By delivering a fully integrated, software-defined platform that is secure, AI-ready, and hardware-agnostic, Panzura is ensuring that no organization is left behind in the race to modernize their data estate. The message is clear: customers no longer need to choose between security, AI, and growth. You can have all three, starting today.
Panzura now provides partners a means to substantially expand their target market.
