Extreme heat expected starting Saturday into next week

After a much welcome reprive over the past couple of the days extreme heat is expected to return to the Twin Lakes Area starting Saturday.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) high pressure will build into the area from the plains to kick off the weekend. Saturday’s highs is expected in Mountain Home to be 91 degrees with a heat index of 103.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will see daily temperatures rise with highs getting to near 100 degrees by Tuesday. Through this period heat indexes will range between 100 and 110 causing the chance for heat illnesses to develop to increase if proper precautions are not taken.

No significant rain is forecasted for the next seven days which may result in a reversal of recent improvements to drought conditions in Northern Arkansas.

By Wednesday an easing of temperatures and humidity will bring some relief with a forecast more in the average range for late July.

Hot temperatures and high humidity can cause heat illnesses to form quickly. It is important to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
