IBC: Cinegy To Highlight Linux, Docker Efficiency For Software-Defined Playout

Cinegy, a provider of software-defined media aimed at replacing costly hardware approaches with virtualized, cloud-friendly systems, said Tuesday that its presence at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14 in Stand 7.A01 to demonstrate how its software-defined media tools reduce hardware and cloud costs by running playout and back-end services in Docker on Linux.

With processor and memory costs rising, broadcasters and service providers face pressure to cut infrastructure spending. Cinegy said its Cinegy Air playout server and automation software can run with a much smaller processor footprint and use one-quarter to one-eighth the RAM of comparable Windows implementations, letting operators do more with existing hardware or lower cloud bills when migrating to virtual environments.

What Cinegy will show

  • Cinegy Air running core back-end functions in Docker on Linux for greater efficiency, instant scalability and faster migration.
  • Cinegy Desktop, a cross-platform, real-time production system that provides secure, zero-install access to live feeds and media asset management for sports, news and fast-turnaround productions.
  • Presentations and debates in an on-stand Cinegy Studio covering software- defined architecture challenges and solutions.

Jan Weigner, Cinegy chief technology officer and founder, said the company has used virtualization and channel templatization for more than 15 years and that its Linux-based engine architecture delivers scalability and resilience through sandboxed Docker deployment. He said the approach enables operators to spin up fully configured broadcast channels in seconds while keeping deployment and operating costs down.

“We can deliver against any requirement, so now our efforts are more and more focused on efficiency and ease of deployment,” Weigner said. “With today’s challenges around the costs of processors, memory and storage, it is more critical than ever. That is why we are inviting the IBC community to see how we are delivering.”

Cinegy said the lighter resource footprint of Linux deployments reduces capital and cloud expenses and simplifies scaling. Cinegy Desktop’s zero-trust, zero-install client lets users access production tools over the internet without local installs or device management, which the company described as easing remote production workflows.
