IBC: Calrec To Demonstrate IP-Native Audio Ecosystem, New Virtualized Options

Calrec will demonstrate an IP-native audio ecosystem and debut expanded virtualized audio options at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, Sept. 11-14, highlighting tools the company says help broadcasters scale production costs to match individual projects.

The U.K. manufacturer will be at Hall 8, Stand C47, where it will center its display on the Argo console range and the True Control 2.0 control layer. Calrec plans two product announcements at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, the company said.

As audiences fragment across streaming, social and FAST platforms, Calrec said broadcasters need production systems that can flex by project so production spending follows the size of a job rather than forcing broadcasters to provision for the biggest possible show.

What Calrec will show

  • The Argo IP-native ecosystem, built to run on-premises, remotely, virtualized or connected to orchestration platforms such as Grass Valley’s AMPP and NEP’s Platform, will be central to the stand demonstration.
  • Three Argo consoles on the stand will be networked via True Control 2.0 to a fourth console at Calrec’s headquarters in Hebden Bridge, United Kingdom, with each console configured differently to illustrate a range of virtualized remote-production workflows. A 24-fader Argo M will connect to ImPulseV, an Argo S will connect to an ImPulse IP processing core, and a 36-fader Argo M will run on internal DSP.

True Control 2.0 True Control 2.0 is the system layer Calrec says unifies consoles, processing cores and virtualized resources. The company said it delivers full parameter control over equalization, dynamics, routing, direct outputs and delay, and that one controller can manage up to five other Calrec consoles or processing cores simultaneously to support distributed workflows without additional hardware.

ImPulseV virtualized DSP and flexible licensing Calrec is expanding its ImPulseV virtualized audio engine with two smaller DSP package options — 96-path and 140-path — alongside an existing 256-path option aimed at smaller systems that still require broadcast-grade audio. All packages support full processing on every path, 5.1 and immersive formats up to 7.1.4, and dynamic real-time allocation of DSP resources across channel and bus paths, the company said.

Calrec also announced shorter licensing terms for ImPulseV — one year, 12 weeks and four weeks — to give broadcasters more flexibility for temporary or variable productions and reduce upfront commitments. ImPulseV can run on commercial off-the-shelf hardware, private cloud, existing processing hardware or distributed resources, according to the company.

Software updates and previews Calrec said it will demonstrate several software updates at IBC:

  • Argo v1.4.24, available now, which adds operator enhancements to the 1.4 release.
  • Type R v3.2, available now, which adds improved mix-minus outputs, Assist Upstand meter tiles, off-air record contribution dialogue and Syslog support.
  • A preview of Argo Offline Assist, which Calrec said will allow offline configuration and is planned for release in the fourth quarter.

Calrec framed the announcements as parts of a single, connected ecosystem designed to let broadcasters allocate resources and costs per production. The company said the combination of Argo consoles, True Control 2.0 and ImPulseV is intended to let broadcasters deploy on-premises or virtualized workflows and scale capacity without committing to large, fixed infrastructure investments.
