Casey’s General Stores Inc. has brought its Goodstop by Casey’s convenience store concept to Sioux Falls.
The Iowa-based retailer bought the former Taylor’s Pantry at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue, which included GoodSpirits Fine Wine & Liquor. It opened over the weekend.
“The first step was to go to all the C-stores to see if they would buy it as is,” said Bradyn Neises, principal at Bender Commercial Real Estate Services, who had the property co-listed with Michael Bender.
“It generated interest, and Casey’s was the one that jumped on it first.”
The site is slightly smaller than a typical new gas station and convenience store, making it a fit for the Goodstop brand. Casey’s began branding the smaller store format in 2021, offering self-serve fuel and a selection of snacks, drinks, tobacco products and other essential items, while limiting prepared food offerings.
The Taylor family bought the property in the 1970s as a liquor store and expanded it into a gas station and convenience store in the early 1990s.
“Visibility is a big thing” that attracted Casey’s, Neises said. “41st and Minnesota is a very high-trafficked (intersection) and will be into the future, and it’s hard to find those corners in town that are available.”
Part of the building will be converted to kitchen space, and the license to sell liquor was included in the deal, he said.
Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
