The old Robbinsdale High School, which most recently served as the middle school, closed for the final time Thursday night after a farewell concert brought together alumni, former teachers and neighbors.
Hundreds attended the free concert by the Robbinsdale City Band. A montage of the school’s history played behind the band during the event.

“It started way back in 1906. The city founders wanted to attract more residents and promote a civic feeling, so they formed a civic band” said Kristi Gibson, a board member of the Robbinsdale Historical Society. ” But it’s been going ever since,” said Gibson.
The historic high school opened in 1956 but was later used for other operations, including a middle school. The building holds more than eight decades of memories.
The school board voted to close the school back in December as part of a plan to deal with a budget shortfall.
