Two people die in Stone County fire Sunday morning

Two people were killed in a house fire Sunday morning in Stone County. Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long says the victims have been identified as 36-year-old Brian “Buddy” Thomas Jr. and 32-year-old Melinda “Mindy” Mayfield, both of Jonesboro.

Long says the two stayed in living quarters above the garage of the home located at 18981 State Highway 5 North, near Ready Mix. The homeowners, Bruce and Michelle Stevens, were not injured in the blaze.

According to information from the Allison-Sylamore Fire Department, they were paged out to the residence with entrapment shortly before 7:00 Sunday morning.

They were assisted in fighting the fire by the Mountain View Fire Department.

The Arkansas State Fire Marshal is investigating the blaze, but no foul play is suspected.
