By rssfeeds-admin The investigation started after residents complained about vape sales to minors. Detectives ran an undercover compliance operation in which someone underage attempted to purchase nicotine from stores across the township.
Each owner was charged with maintaining a nuisance and sale of flavored vape products, breaking a township ordinance that prohibits nuisances.
New Jersey law bans tobacco and nicotine product sales to anyone under 21. This includes electronic smoking devices and vape products. The sale of flavored vapes is banned for all ages under a law that took effect on April 20, 2020.
A man who said he owns Best Stop claimed he was away from his business when a worker mistakenly sold a vape product to a minor. Owners of Cedar Liquors and Happy Fruit Market did not respond to requests for comment.
Each business owner received a summons to appear in Teaneck Municipal Court at a future date.
“The sale of nicotine products to underage individuals is illegal and poses significant health risks to our youth,” McGurr said, according to NJ.com. “Our department will continue to investigate complaints and conduct compliance checks to ensure businesses operating in Teaneck comply with New Jersey law.”
McGurr said the police department is committed “to enforcing laws that protect the health and safety of young people.”
