St. Louis Park businesses hurt by construction ask for public support

St. Louis Park businesses said on Friday city construction is hurting sales and are asking the public to keep supporting them.

Tenants at Westwood Shopping Center said Friday they are dealing with construction at Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue. Ullsperger Brewing said it took a “decent loss” in June.

Dan Ullsperger, owner of Ullsperger Brewing, said the business was not profitable last month and was down more than 50% in gross sales. He said conversations with 12 other Westwood Shopping Center tenants point to construction and confusing signs cutting customer traffic.

Ullsperger is reminding customer that signs that say “business access” means it is open to traffic.

Ullsperger is encouraging community members in St. Louis Park and in the Twin Cities metro to support all Westwood tenants.

“I’ve seen the efforts these businesses and families put in to living their dream and serving the community,” said Ullsperger. “The best way to support is continuing to show up, purchase goods or services, and encourage others as well.”

Business owners said they are also asking the city to consider additional support.
