House worker in Robbinsdale dives into lake to save 4-year-old who went underwater 50 feet from shore

The Robbinsdale Police Department is commending the actions of multiple people who helped save a 4-year-old from drowning Friday.

Police said that at 2:43 p.m., an emergency call was placed by a resident near Ryan Lake in Robbinsdale, where a 4-year-old had gone underwater. It was reported that the child was as far as 50 feet away from the lake’s shoreline when they went under.

While on the phone with 911, the caller notified others in the house. A worker inside the caller’s home ran outside after hearing what was happening and jumped into the lake, swimming towards the child.

The worker saw the boy flailing in the water and managed to reach him as he was underwater. He was able to bring the boy to a dock as emergency personnel arrived.

According to police, the boy was breathing and conscious when he was checked by medical staff.

“There are a number of heroic actions here; the person that called 911, who cared enough to get involved, the adults that went into the water to try to get to the child, and the man who got to the child and brought him above the water to safety. These people are true heroes,” Police Chief Patrick Foley stated.
