Cone Zone: South metro weekend constructionHighway 77 construction will force south metro travelers to a different route over the weekend.

A closure on part of northbound Highway 77 in Eagan will reroute south metro drivers this weekend as road and bridge work starts Friday night.

Northbound Highway 77 will close between Interstate 35E and the Minnesota River Bridge starting at 9 p.m. Friday. The closure runs until 5 a.m. Monday.

All ramps along that stretch will be closed, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) says.

Before the full closure begins, northbound Highway 77 is reduced to two lanes between Diffley Road and the Minnesota River Bridge until 9 p.m. Friday.

Detour details

The detour takes drivers from southbound Highway 77 to northbound I-35E to westbound I-494 and back to Highway 77.

The work is part of a project to repair and resurface the road and 10 bridges in the area. MnDOT says the goal is to improve safety along Highway 77 in Eagan.
