Unit4 has announced that new and existing Unit4 ERP customers can trial AI capabilities tailored to their service-centric industries without commitment by registering before December 2026. Unit4 intends to empower the mid-market to harness AI for innovation, reduce manual, repetitive tasks, improve decision-making and build tangible business use cases for AI, giving time back for work that matters most. The initiative ends on 31st August 2027. Customers can then move to a subscription for Unit4’s AI capabilities or stop using the technology. However, Unit4 believes ongoing experimentation is crucial to fulfilling AI’s potential for the mid-market.
As part of “AI for Your World,” customers will be able to use Unit4’s Advanced Virtual Agent, Ava. It will allow them to make natural-language requests through tools such as Microsoft Teams. Ava brings tasks, guidance and insights directly to users, removing the need to switch applications.
The AI capabilities will operate across the Unit4 ERPx platform, spanning finance, HR and people, procurement and project management. Customers will receive full access to Unit4’s AI tools under a fair-use cap designed to support everyday use without unexpected costs.

According to Simon Paris, CEO, Unit4, “The mid-market has always been an engine of growth for economies around the world. We want to help build a new generation of AI-enabled mid-market champions.
“The “AI for Your World” initiative underlines our commitment helping customers experiment with AI functionality without concerns about contractual obligations. We believe this commitment-free approach will be a trigger to accelerate innovation and productivity. Giving teams time back for the work that matters most.”
Approach built on four principles
Unit4 has built its approach to AI around four principles:
- Designed for your world: Most ERP systems record what has happened. With 40 years of industry context, ERPx understands that. It is built into its foundations, not bolted on, making it a system of reason. Customers go live faster on pre-built vertical workflows. Unit4 says they get an ERP that reasons from the meaning up, not one they must configure from scratch.
- You stay in control: Governance is built into the architecture, not bolted on afterwards. Every action stays inside your rules. A policy, threshold and delegation engine enforces the rules, but a named human owns every action. The system is also fully reconstructible, and audits are easy. Data stays protected through tenant isolation, strict data residency controls, and a guarantee that no data trains public LLMs.
- It gets smarter over time: The more ERPx is involved in tasks, the more it learns. Every cycle (engagement, grant, term, payroll) feeds the model, per tenant and in jurisdiction. Ava orchestrates agents across finance, projects and people for one coordinated view, and vertical pattern recognition ensures problems surface early.
- Built for what’s next: AI is constantly evolving, which is why Unit4 has designed its approach to be model-agnostic. The business context layer sits apart from any single model, so new capabilities plug in instead of forcing a rebuild. It also means the control plane absorbs new frameworks from regulators and for governance.
AI embedded in an intelligent core

“AI will only be effective for mid-market organisations if it is embedded in an intelligent core that is fluent in the language of our customers’ industries,” added Claus Jepsen, CTO, Unit4.
“They have a head start using our AI with ERPx because it has been designed with their needs in mind. It becomes smarter the more involved it gets in work, ensuring institutional memory lives in the system and accelerates productivity.
“It is auditable and data is protected so our customers can be confident of compliance with regulatory frameworks. Furthermore, it is model-agnostic to avoid lock-in to one LLM approach.”
Enterprise Times: What this means for businesses
For businesses, this initiative means they can explore Unit4’s AI capabilities with less financial and contractual risk. Organisations can use tools such as Ava to automate routine ERP tasks, access guidance and insights more easily, and improve decision-making. These tasks cover areas across finance, HR, procurement and project management.
It gives mid-market organisations a way to test whether AI can deliver measurable productivity gains before committing to a subscription. Unit4’s emphasis on governance, auditability, data protection and model flexibility helps reassure organisations that need control, compliance and long-term adaptability.
However, several key elements appear to be missing from this initiative that enterprises of all sizes must address to adopt AI successfully. These include access to clean organisational data in ERPs. Also missing is a clear mapping of business processes or workflows so agents can understand the decision-making context.
There also needs to be development of robust and effective guardrails to reduce the risk of misuse by bad actors. To secure buy-in from stakeholders and employees, there is a need for change management programmes.
