By rssfeeds-admin Inver Grove Heights police said an officer accidentally fired one shot during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning after the driver got out and ran away.
According to investigators, officers tried to stop a vehicle near South Street and Sixth Avenue South around 3:40 a.m., but the driver took off.
Officers located the same car a short time later and attempted to conduct a second traffic stop. That’s when the driver got out and ran away.
During this encounter, the responding officer approached the car and accidentally fired one gunshot into one of the tires, according to police.
Investigators say that the shot was not directed at anyone, and no one was in or near the vehicle.
The suspect was later found in the area with an injury after falling over a fence.
The Inver Grove Heights Police Department said it will review the incident under its standard operating procedure.
