A registered sex offender was arrested Sunday after authorities allegedly discovered firearms during a compliance check at a residence in southern Baxter County.According to the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Gorbet and officers with the Arkansas Division of Community Correction conducted a sex offender compliance visit at the home of Hans Hess on Hopewell Hollow Road in the Jordan area.
During the visit, authorities reported finding a .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle in a bedroom and a .22-caliber handgun with a loaded magazine in the living room.

Investigators say Hess is a convicted felon with prior violent felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Hess was taken into custody and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center, where he was booked on a charge of possession of firearms by certain persons, a Class B felony.

He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court on June 22.
