Atchley pleads guilty to meth possession and public intoxication

A man charged with possession of methamphetamine and public intoxication appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court/Criminal Division on Monday (June 8)and pled guilty to those charges.
Thirty-eight-year-old Brandon Wade Atchley, who lists an address in Mulberry on court documents, was put on probation for four years.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Mountain Home police responded to an area at 12th and South Streets where a complainant advised he had been approached by Atchley who asked him for money so he could go to the Baxter County Fair.

The complainant said he believed the man was under the influence.

While patrolling the area another MHPD officer spotted a male matching the suspect’s description walking near the entrance to the fairgrounds.

The officer who originally responded to the call, went to where the second officer had seen the suspect.

The man, later identified as Atchley, was contacted. Officers described him as being “visibly nervous, constantly moving, looking around and exhibiting a delayed response to questions asked of him.”

Atchley is reported to have repeatedly told the officers he was trying to get a job at the fair. He also mentioned that he “did not feel safe” with law enforcement officers present.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Atchley was alleged to have an active parole violation warrant out on him.

He was placed in handcuffs and searched. A small plastic bag was found in his front left pocket. Atchley referred to it as a cigar package.

When the package was checked, a black and green container containing a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine was found.

After his arrest, Atchley was taken to the Baxter County Detention Center.
