Two drivers arrested on OWI charges after colliding in Bloomington, police say

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — June 10, 2026

Two drivers were arrested on operating while intoxicated charges after police said their vehicles collided late Sunday night on Bloomington’s east side.

Bloomington police responded at 11:48 p.m. June 8 to a crash at East Covenanter Drive and South College Mall Road, according to a Bloomington Police Department report.

Police said Caroline Recker, 26, reported that she was driving when another driver struck her vehicle and fled the scene. Recker was driving a gray 2022 Kia Forte, and the other driver was in a gray 2025 GMC Sierra pickup truck, according to police.

An off-duty officer who heard the call later found the pickup truck in a parking lot on Covenanter Drive after noticing its lights blinking, according to police.

Police identified the pickup driver as Christian Gonzalez, 35. Officers located and detained Gonzalez after the crash.

Recker was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated endangerment, according to police.

Gonzalez was arrested on preliminary charges of leaving the scene of an accident, operating while intoxicated endangerment, two counts of resisting law enforcement and intimidation, according to police.

Police said the intimidation charge stems from allegations that Gonzalez made threats to harm a BPD officer.

Officers later observed Gonzalez at the Bloomington Police Department and assisted in restraining him at a hospital, according to police.
