Paramus Plans Two-Day Celebration for America’s 250th Anniversary in July

Paramus will throw a two-day party when America turns 250. There’s a parade. Food trucks show up. Fireworks light the sky, and police play softball against firefighters. It all happens July 2 and July 3.

According to Patch, things start Thursday, July 2, at 8 p.m. The Frank “Dutch” Cleenput 4th of July PD vs. FD Annual Softball Game takes place at Cliff Gennarelli Sports Complex, where officers face off against the fire crew like they do every year.

Friday, July 3, brings the big events. The Independence Day Parade rolls out at 9 a.m. from Century Road and Farview Avenue, moves north on Farview Avenue, then stops at Memorial School. Want a good seat? A grandstand gets built at Christ Lutheran Church.

At 2 p.m., food trucks roll into Paramus High School. Just Jersey Food Truck Festival runs the show, bringing more than 20 trucks serving gourmet eats.

Tickets cost $5. Kids under five years old get in without paying. You can wander between trucks and try whatever catches your eye.

When dusk arrives, fireworks explode over the high school. No charge to watch. George Hodkins Stadium offers the best view, but everyone gets searched before entering.

On the turf field, you can spread blankets or towels. Chairs won’t be allowed there.

This 250th birthday marks 2.5 centuries since colonists signed the Declaration of Independence back in 1776. Towns across America are throwing big parties for the occasion.
