Rain brings brief relief before summer heat returns to Twin Lakes Area

The Twin Lakes Area received a welcome round of rainfall Sunday as showers and thunderstorms moved through the region before clearing out by the evening hours.

A complex of storms developed over southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas before tracking into the area during the morning and afternoon. The rain provided beneficial moisture across the region, with KTLO Studios, the official reporting station for the National Weather Service, recording 0.70 inches of rainfall.

While rainfall amounts varied from location to location, many areas received between one-half inch and three-quarters of an inch of precipitation.

The rain began moving out of the area Sunday evening, allowing drier conditions to return overnight.

Forecasters say the break from the heat will be short-lived. KTLO News spoke with senior meteorologist with the National Weather Service, Joe Goudsward who tells us what to expect Monday.

The rainfall is expected to provide temporary relief for lawns, gardens and agricultural interests, but the return of hot and dry conditions will quickly increase evaporation rates across the region.
