United Airlines Adds Nonstop St. Croix to Newark Route Starting October

United Airlines will launch nonstop service between St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Newark/New York on Oct. 31. It’s the only carrier offering flights from St. Croix to the New York City area. The route runs on Saturdays using a Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 126 seats, 12 in business class.

Departures from Newark begin at 9:03 a.m. Planes touch down in St. Croix at 1:20 p.m. The return leg leaves St. Croix at 2:25 p.m. and lands back in Newark at 6:58 p.m.

“United is proud to connect more customers to more Caribbean destinations than any other airline in the New York City region,” said Tom Kozlowski, Senior Manager, Latin & Hawaii Network Planning, United Airlines, according to PR Newswire. “We look forward to introducing even more travelers to the vibrant experiences that await in St. Croix.”

This new service brings the carrier’s total to 23 destinations across the Caribbean from Newark. No other airline from the New York City area flies to as many spots. The route adds to existing Newark-St. Thomas service, giving travelers more options for trips to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“Today’s announcement is a major milestone for St. Croix and a meaningful expansion of air access for both residents and visitors alike,” said Commissioner Jennifer Matarangas-King of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “As someone born and raised on St. Croix, I know firsthand how transformative direct connectivity to the New York market can be for our community, our businesses, and our tourism economy.”

Matarangas-King added the nonstop service strengthens ties to an important visitor market. She said it opens up new opportunities for travelers to experience St. Croix — its culture, history, and natural beauty.

The carrier operates hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. Among North American carriers, it runs the most extensive global route network.

St. Croix sits about 40 miles east of Puerto Rico in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. The territory includes St. Thomas, where the capital of Charlotte Amalie is located, and St. John.
