Barnesville man struck by car in Rush Township dies; driver not cited

GRIER CITY – A Barnesville man was struck and killed by a passing car as he tried to cross the road and the driver will not face charges, state troopers said.

Austin Didgen, 31, of Barnesville, was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale after the crash Sunday evening in Rush Township.

According to the State Police at Frackville, he was crossing Grier Avenue in the 200 block “outside of a designated crosswalk” and was struck by a 2020 Honda Civic, driven by Erick Chavez, 22, of Freeland. The Civic was heading northbound.

Didgen was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there.

A State Police Forensic Services Unit and Collision and Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate. Troopers were assisted by EMS units from Ryan Township, Tamaqua, and Lehigh Valley MedEvac 4.

Chavez was not cited for the crash.
