Calrec Console Switch Helps Ross Production Services Flex Its Infrastructure

Ross Production Services has increased flexibility in remote production by replacing one of its 60-fader Calrec Argo S consoles with a 36-fader Argo M that now anchors Hypermax-1, a new mobile unit that made its debut at NAB Show 2026.

RPS upgraded its Connecticut remote production center in 2023 with three Argo S consoles and relies on Calrec across its distributed audio infrastructure. Lance Bracale, RPS director of engineering, said the Argo M mirrors the Brio consoles used across smaller trucks and continues to connect to RP1-enabled REMI-only units. It can also tie into the Ross Ultrix platform to mux and demux signals back to Connecticut when an RP1 is not available, and its built-in I/O allows offsite deployment for full remote mixing.

Calrec gear spans the RPS fleet, including Brio consoles in FIN1, FIN3, FIN4, FIN7 and FIN8 Sprinter vans; two flypacked Brios; an Apollo in the RPS 9 truck; and RP1 engines in DISTRO 1/2/3 REMI-only units. Bracale said Calrec’s forthcoming True Control 2.0 and RP1 integration are standout features, adding that commonality across consoles lets most A1s step into any RPS control room or truck and get to work quickly.

The Argo M’s installation on Calrec’s IP ImPulse backbone put the console on air within hours of commissioning, with the swap completed in two days. Bracale credited Calrec’s Rob Lewis and Drew McEachin with helping RPS tailor workflows so the console could go live the next day for a Versant Basketball game.

“Remote and distributed production models already make the most of a production company’s resources, but the opportunities it creates are more nuanced,” Rob Lewis, Calrec technical sales manager, said. “The ability to do more with the same flexible equipment enables production companies like RPS to create more content with the same resources.”
