The recall applies to select lots of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons sold in 5-ounce pouches.
The affected products carry UPC code 0 11110 81353 4 and have “best if used by” dates ranging from February 17, 2027, through April 7, 2027.
The croutons were distributed between March 7 and April 7 to Kroger stores across 17 states, including Indiana.
Reason for recall
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says the recall was initiated out of an abundance of caution due to possible Salmonella contamination.
Officials said the concern is linked to powdered milk used as part of the seasoning ingredient.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause illness, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
