Officers have “neutralized” a gun-wielding person at the Islamic Center of San Diego, the city’s police department reported on X around 1 p.m. Monday.
That message was posted about an hour after police originally informed people about the incident and warned them to stay away from the center in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Avenue in the city’s Clairemont neighborhood.
Just before 1 p.m., police described the situation as “still active but contained,” with “significant resources” at the scene. Further, police said a “reunification area” had been established. Police escorted children away from the scene in videos that bystanders posted to social media.
Local media KGTV reported that at least one person was killed, but that information could not immediately be verified.
A media staging area was set up, police said.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
