BrandSource member Big Sandy Superstore opened its fifth Indiana showroom this month.
What makes the new Clarksville store unique, however, is its location: sitting just across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville, Ky., it represents the company’s first foray into that key market.
According to a report in Furniture Today, the 32-store chain plans to backfill the Louisville area as part of an expansion strategy that targets “high-growth communities.”

In a statement, Trey VanHoose, CEO of the family-run and employee-owned retailer, described the Louisville expansion as “an exciting next chapter for Big Sandy. Clarksville is a strong, growing community, and this location allows us to introduce our unique combination of product selection, value and customer experience to an entirely new group of customers. We see significant opportunities to continue growing throughout this region.”
Indeed, Big Sandy is on somewhat of a high-growth path itself, having just opened its third Indianapolis-area showroom last month and a 100,000-square-foot distribution center to support what will eventually be four Indy stores, Furniture Today reported.
Based in Ashland, Ky., the 73-year-old furniture, appliance and mattress chain also operates locations in Ohio, West Virginia and Missouri.
YSN publisher AVB BrandSource is the nation’s largest merchandising and marketing co-op for independent appliance, mattress, furniture and CE dealers.
