Alex Palou wins pole for Sonsio Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — May 9, 2026
Alex Palou earned the pole position Saturday for the Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, turning the fastest lap in the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session.
Driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, Palou posted a lap of 1 minute, 9.7487 seconds at 125.886 mph to secure the top starting spot for Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race.
Pato O’Ward of Arrow McLaren qualified second with a lap of 1:10.2962, 0.5475 seconds behind Palou.
Felix Rosenqvist will start third after turning a lap of 1:10.4548 for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian.
Christian Lundgaard qualified fourth for Arrow McLaren with a lap of 1:10.4751, while David Malukas placed fifth for Team Penske at 1:10.5660.
Rookie Louis Foster rounded out the Firestone Fast Six, qualifying sixth for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with a lap of 1:10.9404.
The Sonsio Grand Prix is part of the Month of May activities at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and serves as a lead-in to the Indianapolis 500 later this month.
