SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – Firefighters converged on a Schuylkill Avenue duplex Monday evening after crews say plastic on a furnace caused a smoke condition.
Crews were called to the 100 block of Schuylkill Avenue around 9pm for a report of smoke in a structure.
Shenandoah Heights Fire Chief Larry Levy told the Sentinel that a neighbor noticed smoke in the basement of the home. That smoke was coming from next door, where plastic had been on the stove pipe of a furnace.
No injuries were reported though several children were taken into the care of Shenandoah Ambulance briefly before being released to their parents.
Firefighters also installed a missing smoke alarm on the first floor of the home.
Responding were crews from Shenandoah, Shenandoah Heights, William Penn, Englewood, Mahanoy City, among others.
