Team effort revamps bleachers at Ringtown field
RINGTOWN – Spectators at Ringtown baseball games have a refreshed place to sit and enjoy the game thanks to the efforts of a volunteer committee and a county business.
The Ringtown Recreation Committee, a volunteer group of five Ringtown and five Union Township residents, maintains the Ringtown Recreation Center at 126 Zion Grove Road.
“Most recently, there was a need to update the bleachers at the lower field in order to provide a more enjoyable experience for fans,” committee members recently shared with the Sentinel. A team effort began to find materials to make necessary repairs.
Jim Ambrose, president of the committee and Dave Deeter, of Ringtown, led the effort as they sought a donation from Hydro of Cressona. Tony Petritsch, of Ringtown, works at Hydro and pitched in to help, calling on R&T Mechanical to create side plates.
“Mike Hammer, plant manager, and Treasure Hatter also played a strategic part in getting the needed materials to Jim Ambrose, who worked diligently to make the necessary repairs to the bleachers,” the committee said. “The original framework was in great shape and was reused.”
Though the Ringtown Recreation Center is funded through the generous giving of Union Township, Ringtown Borough, and the Ringtown Community Fund, donations are also a key part to making the complex a safe and enjoyable space for people of all ages.
The donation from Hydro was instrumental in the recent updating of the lower field, organizers said, including improved dugout.
“The Ringtown Area Little League also does a great job maintaining the fields,” the committee said. “It is a community effort. “
