Two detained by immigration authorities at commercial safety check on Burma Road
NEW BOSTON – Two people were taken into custody on immigration charges at a commercial vehicle safety checkpoint on Burma Road near here.
Mahanoy Township Police conducted the safety check on Wednesday along the route which is heavily travelled by trucks bound for the BRADS Landfill near Saint Clair.
Over a dozen vehicles were inspected, police said, and federal immigration agents took part “for support,” police said.
One vehicle was impounded for safety violations.
Two drivers, police said, “were identified as being in the country illegally” and taken to a federal processing center.
