Harmonic detailed enhancements to its hybrid streaming platform aimed at simplifying operations, reducing total cost of ownership and enabling next-generation services across on-premises and cloud environments. Updates include Model Context Protocol (MCP) connectivity for AI applications, cloud-native deployment on Red Hat OpenShift and policy-driven video asset orchestration.

“Harmonic is redefining how service providers manage streaming operations across on-premises and cloud environments with industry-first technology innovations,” said Mikel Darrigues, Harmonic senior director of streaming solutions. “Our intelligent, flexible approach to video operations helps streaming service providers drive greater efficiency, lower costs and consistently deliver exceptional viewer experiences.”

MCP connectivity is positioned as an AI-agent integration layer for streaming operations, providing standardized MCP connections, centralized control and unified access to operational data. Harmonic says customers can plug their AI agents into the company’s management layer to enable capabilities such as root-cause analysis, self-healing, cost optimization and intelligent asset movement.

Harmonic’s VOS Media Software is optimized for Red Hat OpenShift and in production with a European service provider. The containerized microservices architecture uses OpenShift orchestration, security and scaling to support broadcast and OTT on a unified platform, including premium live streaming, time-shift TV, network DVR and targeted ad insertion.

For content libraries, Harmonic introduced intelligent, policy-driven orchestration that analyzes access patterns and automatically moves VOD and network PVR assets across storage tiers based on demand, performance and cost policies. The approach combines origin heat analysis with policy-based migration to centralize visibility and reduce manual management and storage expense, the company said.

Harmonic will demonstrate the hybrid streaming updates at the 2026 NAB Show, April 19–22, in Las Vegas, in Booth W2831.
