NAB Show: Proton Camera Innovations To Launch Proton Pro Minicam

Proton Camera Innovations, a provider of miniature camera technology, is launching the Proton Pro, a miniature broadcast camera designed for high-intensity sports production, at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22.

The new model, which will be on display at Booth C4740, measures 30mm x 30mm x 49mm and weighs 79g. It is built around a 2/3-inch global shutter sensor, a feature that allows the camera to read the entire image simultaneously. This design prevents the image skew often found in high-speed shots when using a rolling shutter.

The Proton Pro includes professional connectivity features such as Genlock for frame-accurate synchronization in multi-camera setups. It also features a dedicated audio input for embedded sound capture and an auxiliary connection for remote lens adjustment via third-party controllers. A C-mount lens mount gives users the option to select optics tailored to specific environments, such as wide-angle lenses for net-cams or zooms for distant action.

“The Proton Pro rounds out our camera range, and with its larger global shutter sensor, it will prove indispensable in fast action productions,” Marko Hoepken, Proton Camera Innovations CEO, said. “As with all of our cameras, the goal remains the same: to give creators the tools to capture shots that were previously impossible.”

The camera joins a product portfolio that includes the Proton Cam — currently the smallest broadcast camera on the market at 24g — as well as the Proton 4K, Proton Zoom, Proton Flex and the weather-sealed Proton Rain. While other models in the range can be adapted with accessories, the Proton Pro is designed to be workflow-ready out of the box.

Hoepken said Wednesday the company’s camera ecosystem has been used in various applications, including 3D production, drones for winter sports, helmet-mounted POV cameras and rigs for soccer, tennis and hockey.
