Tysdal starts commercial real estate firm

April 7, 2026

Commercial real estate veteran Ryan Tysdal has started his own business.

Tysdal Commercial opens with a four-person team and will be located later this year in an office being constructed at 57th Street and Oxbow Avenue.

“We come from various backgrounds, but we all have an affinity for excellence,” Tysdal said. “Our approach is based on expertise, knowledge and integrity.”

Tysdal has worked as a commercial real estate broker for more than a dozen years, including the past decade at Van Buskirk Cos. He began his career at Lloyd Cos. and is co-owner of the Foss Fields development in northeast Sioux Falls.

“When I was getting into the business, Craig Lloyd said to me, ‘Real estate is 100 percent a relationships business.’ Truer words have never been spoken,” Tysdal said.

“I have built my business with that philosophy. From clients to fellow brokers, to city and municipal partners, it all comes down having strong relationships.”

Tysdal Commercial’s team includes commercial broker Mike Knudson, who began his career in the industry in 2021.

“My history with Mike reaches back to our days in the advertising industry. Mike is an enjoyable person to be around – and he’s incredibly smart. Those talents have done him well in the commercial real estate arena,” Tysdal said.

Jaime Scherer will serve as director of brokerage services.

“Jaime and I worked together since my very first day in real estate at Lloyd Cos. I still remember my first official meeting on day one was with Jaime and Craig (Lloyd),” Tysdal said. “To still be working with Jaime all these years later is a treat to say the least.”

Emily Christensen rounds out the team as marketing coordinator.

“We brought Emily on our team about a year ago. Her great marketing eye has been a huge asset for our group, not to mention she is just a ray of sunshine in the office,” Tysdal said.

“I’m proud of the team we’ve assembled.”

Tysdal’s team has worked with national brands such as T.J.Maxx, Hobby Lobby, At Home, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Five Below, Sport Clips, Ross Dress for Less and Scooter’s Coffee.

“We have a boutique approach to real estate – helping clients that run the gamut from a small office space to a large national retailer,” Tysdal said.

“But in addition to all the big names people read in the headlines, we’ve helped countless small-business owners to lease or buy space in South Dakota. It’s these small businesses that make up a big part of our local economy, and we’re proud to help so many of them with their real estate needs.”

Construction of the new building is expected to be done sometime this summer. In the meantime, the firm leased a temporary office at 7400 S. Bitterroot Place next to Kading, Kunstle & Goodhope Law.

While the Tysdal team members no longer will be under the Van Buskirk brokerage umbrella, they will continue to work with the various divisions of Van Buskirk, including property management, development and construction.

“They have been so good to me, and I’m happy that we will get to continue working together on many fronts,” Tysdal said.

Tysdal has been a strong contributor to the Van Buskirk team for the past nine years, said Mike Van Buskirk, co-CEO.

“We’ve had success, and we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished working together and independently,” he said. “We’re excited to see him take this next step as an independent broker and look forward to continuing to work together and collaborate in the market. We wish him continued success in building his new firm.”
