Oni Press and The Nacelle Company Join Forces for The Art of The Toys That Made Us

For any toy collector or ’80s kid out there, few streaming documentaries can match the appeal of Netflix’s The Toys That Made Us. Each episode of the series digs deep into the history and pop culture impact of iconic toylines like Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you’re having trouble waiting for new seasons of the series to debut, there’s a new outlet. Oni Press and The Nacelle Company have teamed up to produce The Art of The Toys That Made Us.

With the Kickstarter campaign for The Art of The Toys That Made Us live now, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of this multi-volume set. Get a closer look at cover art in the sldieshow gallery below:

The Art of The Toys That Made Us is a two-volume set of slipcase hardcover editions that spotlights the artwork, advertising, and concept designs of the toy brands featured on the series. In addition to the books themselves, the Kickstarter campaign also features optional bonuses like enamel pins, nylon wallets, lunchboxes, and trucker hats.

This Kickstarter campaign also includes another hardcover book of special interest to toy collectors. Nacelleverse: Year Zero collects all of the early comics that make up the shared universe known as the Nacelleverse. That shared universe brings together franchises like Biker Mice From Mars, RoboForce, Secaturs, Power Lords, and C.O.W.–Boys of Moo Mesa.

“It took seven years to sell Toy That Made Us to Netflix and get the show on the air, and every day since has been a dream, including this book series that allows us to take many of the ‘relics’, as we call them, from the cutting room floor and bring them front and center into all of our lives!” said Nacelle Founder and CEO, Brian Volk-Weiss, in a statement. “We are trying to put on your shelf a meaningful compliment to what we put on your screens, and selfishly speaking, it’s already been a ton of fun getting to this point!”

“I think this campaign is going to give fans of The Toys That Made Us everything they could want…and more!”, said Sam Kusek, Oni’s Director of Business Development. “We’re working meticulously with Nacelle every day to make sure that no stone is left unturned here! These books will be the ultimate toy guide!”
