Police pursue Jeep west of Bloomington late Saturday night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— April 5, 2026

Police pursued a Jeep late Saturday night after the driver allegedly refused to stop during a traffic stop, according to scanner dispatches.

The pursuit began around 11:14 p.m. Saturday, April 5, near Vernal Pike and 11th Street, after police attempted to stop the vehicle for a broken taillight and other violations, according to scanner traffic. Dispatches indicated the Jeep continued westbound at speeds reaching up to 70 mph.

During the pursuit, the vehicle traveled west to Vernal Pike and Loesch Road, then continued near the railroad tracks at Hartstrait Road after a front tire was reportedly damaged by stop sticks, according to scanner traffic. Even with at least one deflating front tire, the driver allegedly continued on Vernal through sharp turns.

At one point, officers believed the driver might be female, based on scanner traffic.

The pursuit eventually slowed when the vehicle turned onto Louden Road, approaching Howard Road, where dispatches indicated it was traveling about 25 mph with deflating front tires. Officers then conducted a felony stop and took the driver into custody.

No additional information was immediately available Saturday night, and formal police information is likely not available until a press briefing Monday morning.
