Pop-up art exhibition serves as prelude to downtown bar build-out
A new downtown bar is coming to East Eighth Street — but first, local art is taking over the space.
Untitled.10 plans to host a pop-up exhibition from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at 921 E. Eighth St., which most recently was the alcohol-free social space Good NAtured.
“We operate kind of nomadically as we do pop-ups anytime folks will grant us walls,” said Tyson Schultz, who co-founded Untitled.10 in 2021 and has worked with more than 125 artists.
The group was formed to showcase local artists and help build a community around local creatives.
The upcoming show will include recent work by Schultz along with co-directors Levi Sternburg and Kenzie Shubert.
“It will be kind of like a fundraiser,” he said. “Anybody can come see it. It’s free and open to the public, and anything we sell that night will go back to Untitled.10. We don’t take commissions from artists, and we try to support in any way we can.”
The group has been able to start paying artists to participate in its shows, “and that’s pretty uncommon around here,” Schultz added. “Even if there are 20 artists in a show, we try to get them something because it takes time to drop off your art and go to the show.”
Once the one-day show is over, demolition of the space will start. The plan is for a new bar to open later this year, and more details on the concept are expected to be announced soon.
Good NAtured opened earlier this week in its new space at 2501 W. 10th St.
