The media group is using Quortex PowerVu and virtualized Digital Content Manager (vDCM) from Synamedia, a provider of video software, for the transition. The move focused on adopting SRT as the transport protocol for primary contribution and distribution.
Working with systems integrator Convergint, Globo’s linear pay TV service uses Quortex PowerVu for centralized management, proactive endpoint monitoring, automated alarms and remote configuration.
The architecture uses a managed IP backbone distributed across Brazil to enable high availability and latency control. The adoption of SRT allows for advanced packet recovery and selective retransmission mechanisms to ensure signal integrity and stability.
Synamedia also deployed software to increase the capacity of Globo’s PowerVu D9800 receivers to support more video feeds. Synamedia’s software-based vDCM operates as an IP gateway with SRT to support the distribution environment.
“The scale of this project — with Quortex PowerVu at the core — proves that IP-based distribution has reached the maturity required for primary distribution, bringing operational flexibility while ensuring the reliability and image quality that audiences expect,” Edward Allfrey, Synamedia EVP of video network, said.
Synamedia will highlight its primary distribution solutions at NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22.
