Animorphs TV Show in the Works for Disney+ from Ryan Coogler’s Proximity Media

Proximity Media, the company co-founded by Sinners mastermind Ryan Coogler, is working on an Animorphs TV show for Disney+.

Details on the early-in-development adaptation of the classic ‘90s book series come from Variety, which says Coogler, as well as Proximity co-founders Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, are all on board as executive producers. The Testaments and The Summer I Turned Pretty writer Bayan Wolcott is attached as a writer and is also involved as an executive producer.

The Animorphs series of books from authors Katherine Applegate and Michael Grant got its start in 1996 before morphing into several spinoff projects, including a 1998 TV show and Game Boy video game. Beyond being known for its off-putting-but-iconic cover art, where people can be seen transforming into a variety of different animals, fans fell in love with its sci-fi story.

A logline for the Animorphs show suggests it will at least somewhat follow the source material. It says the series “follows a group of teenagers who uncover a hidden threat lurking beneath their everyday lives, all while juggling relationships, curfews, and the chaos of High School.”

Original book publisher Scholastic Publishing’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman are also involved as executive producers. Proximity vice president and head of TV Simone Harris and director of development of TV Dezi Gallegos will oversee the project. The cast, release date, episode count, and other information have yet to be announced as Proximity irons out the details.

Proximity has worked within the Disney streaming sphere before, having helped bring projects like the Black Panther spinoff Eyes of Wakanda, as well as the live-action Marvel show Ironheart, to life last year. After wrapping up work on Coogler’s Sinners, which also premiered in 2025 and saw success at the 98th Academy Awards, the company will be involved with the director’s upcoming The X-Files reboot.
