Officials say rivers are expected to remain elevated through the weekend, creating hazardous conditions both in and around the water. Emergency Management Director Bernie Beier warned that fast-moving currents and unstable riverbanks pose a serious risk to anyone who ventures too close.
Beier emphasized that no one should be in or near the rivers during this time, noting that even experienced swimmers can be overpowered by strong currents. He also cautioned that debris carried by the high water can increase the danger.
“Stay out of the Maumee River. Water is flowing at 19K fps, making the current very fast, high, and dangerous. Tree limbs and woody debris create ‘strainers’ which can trap and kill you. Stay safe during flood conditions.”
Residents are encouraged to prioritize safety, avoid flooded areas, and stay informed on local conditions as water levels remain high. Officials say conditions could change quickly and are asking the public to heed all warnings until the rivers recede.
