The operation will run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will include collaboration with Indiana State Police and Ontario Provincial Police, according to WXYZ. High-visibility patrols will cover more than 500 miles, spanning Indiana, Michigan, and into Ontario along Highway 401 toward Toronto.
MSP Director Col. James F. Grady II said the operation represents the first joint international distracted driving enforcement effort in North America. “By coordinating enforcement across state and provincial boundaries, participating agencies, including over 50 MSP troopers and motor carrier officers from the First, Second, Third, and Fifth districts, aim to promote safer driving behaviors and reduce traffic crashes along one of the busiest transportation corridors in the Great Lakes region,” he said.
Officials say the initiative will focus on improving driver compliance with traffic laws, deterring distracted driving, and promoting road safety across this heavily traveled corridor.
