MUNCIE, Ind. (WOWO) — Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday evening following a standoff in Muncie.
Authorities say officers were called around 5 p.m. to a home on South Ivy Wood Drive to conduct a welfare check when a man inside the residence allegedly pointed a handgun at officers before retreating back inside.
According to the Indiana State Police, officers remained on scene for several hours and attempted to negotiate a peaceful resolution. During the standoff, police say a chemical agent was deployed at the rear of the home shortly before shots were fired.
The man was transported to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
