200 Years Ago

  • J. & C. Clarke have received a complete assortment of garden seeds of the last year’s growth, which were raised by the Shakers of New Lebanon. Also on hand, clover and herds-grass seed of superior quality. Northampton.
  • Ralph and Lorenzo Snow, having formed a co-partnership by the firm of R. Snow & Son, informed the public that they have taken the store No. 8, Merchants’ Row, lately occupied by Spencer Judd & Co., where they offer for sale, at a small advance, a general assortment of French, India, British & American goods.

100 Years Ago

  • Lawrence Diemand of Florence will take part in the marble tournament in district two in Northampton. He was champion in this city last year and competed in the grand finals at Springfield.
  • In connection with the visit here next Monday by Ernest C. Carpenter, who was President Coolidge’s teacher at Plymouth, Vt., it is of interest to note that Mrs. Herbert R. Graves of Northampton was at one time a teacher at Plymouth Five Corners and while there she boarded with Mr. Carpenter’s family. Mr. Carpenter was then a boy.

50 Years Ago

  • The Clarke School for the Deaf will launch its first local fund-raising effort since the 1920s in May. The school will seek $200,000 from local donors to finish renovating Rogers Hall, built in 1806.
  • Glenn Stone, a 1972 graduate of Northampton High School, played a variety of roles in the Keene State College production of “Godspell” at Northampton High School this week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Justin B. Stone, 14 Park St., Florence. The musical production was sponsored by the Florence Congregational Church.
