IGN can exclusively reveal the new red band trailer for The Furious, an action film currently sitting at 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after premiering at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. You can watch the trailer via the player above or the embed below.
The Furious stars Xie Miao (The New Legend of Shaolin, My Father Is a Hero) and Joe Taslim (Mortal Kombat II, The Raid) is directed by Kenji Tanigaki (Enter the Fat Dragon, Master of Thunder).
“After the daughter of Wang Wei (Xie Miao) is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out on a rampage to find her himself,” according to the official plot synopsis.
“His only ally is Navin (Joe Taslim) – a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly fights against the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.”
Director Kenji Tanigaki was generous enough to answer some questions of ours to accompany this trailer debut. You can read our exchange below.
IGN: What was the most challenging fight sequence to design and execute for this film?
Kenji Tanigaki: All of the fight scenes in this film have their own unique qualities, but if I had to choose one, it would be the final fight.
The police station sequence at the end took 18 nights to shoot. Five men from three different groups come together, each fighting with their own distinct martial arts styles. This was only possible because the actors are truly skilled and physically capable.
They weren’t just performing—they were actually fighting while acting, and at the same time working together to bring what seemed like an impossible sequence to life.
I would like to once again express my sincere gratitude to the cast and to the action team led by Kensuke Sonomura.
IGN: What’s your favorite stunt of all time from any movie?
Kenji Tanigaki: Seven Chances by Buster Keaton.
The sequence where he’s chased by 500 brides is incredible—it’s intense and full of inventive ideas. Watching it, I really feel that the chase is the foundation of action cinema. The fact that it was made in 1925 and is still so entertaining today is absolutely amazing!
IGN: What’s your favorite fight scene of all time from any movie?
Kenji Tanigaki: The Way of the Dragon by Bruce Lee.
In the climactic fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, they don’t exchange a single word for nearly ten minutes, yet you can clearly feel that they’re communicating through the fight itself.
I recently rewatched it, and it really struck me how many of the iconic elements in that scene have been carried into so many films since.
In addition to Xie Miao and Joe Taslim, The Furious also stars Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Brian Le, and Joey Iwanaga.
The Furious is written by Mak Tin Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan Sin, and Frank Hui. Producers are Bill Kong, Shan Tam, and Frank Hui.
Lionsgate will release The Furious in the U.S. on May 29, 2026.
