Fire damages trucks at Warner highway department garage
A blaze at Warner’s highway department garage that destroyed a vehicle and damaged several others is expected to have minimal impact on town operations.
Herm Blanchette, the town’s director of public works, said Warner will need to replace one truck due to extensive fire damage. Ten other vehicles inside the garage also sustained smoke damage, including a backhoe loader, a road sweeper and other trucks.
Many pieces of equipment are still operable, and surrounding towns have reached out to help Warner’s public works department, according to Blanchette. The fire should not have any significant effect on the department’s duties, barring some expected delays to response time.
Webster Fire Chief Emmett Bean, Sr., and two firefighters responded to the scene at 11:21 p.m., according to the Webster Fire Department. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Warner Fire Department could not be reached for further details.
A similar fire destroyed the Henniker Town Garage in 2015, which dealt a more-severe blw because it was earlier in the winter and more equipment was destroyed.
The destroyed Warner truck still had its plow blade attached at the time of Wednesday’s fire.
