Stringr is launching Genna, an independent AI company designed to help media organizations automate video creation, and has named Ron Stitt Stringr president-GM. Stringr is a provider of video technology that enables media organizations to source on-demand footage and manage workflows.
Lindsay Stewart and Brian McNeill, Stringr and Genna co-founders, will lead strategy and product for both companies. Genna focuses on AI-powered automation to help media teams move from raw footage and editorial data to finished production.
Stitt, who will oversee day-to-day operations and revenue growth for Stringr, was previously NewsON VP-GM and held digital leadership roles at Fox Television Stations and ABC Owned Television Stations.
“The demand for video in newsrooms has exploded, but the operations behind it haven’t caught up,” McNeill said. “Genna brings automation into the process so media organizations can move from raw footage to finished content at the scale modern media demands.”
Genna operates independently but offers integrations with the Stringr platform. The technology is currently used by media organizations including Reach, Advance Local, Hearst and Gannett.
“We believe that digital content transformation is one of the most thoughtful applications of AI available to media outlets,” Grant Whitmore, Advance Local VP of ad technology and programmatic, said. “The results thus far have exceeded expectations, delivering tens of millions of video views on our own platforms in a very cost-effective manner while driving growth and engagement in our social channels.”
Genna’s Stewart said the new company allows for advanced AI development while Stringr continues to scale its contributor marketplace. Stringr is a provider of an on-demand videographer network with more than 100,000 contributors, allowing broadcasters to capture custom footage globally.
The company said there are no changes to existing Stringr customer contracts or support teams.
