The demonstrations, held at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, highlighted how AI-enabled cameras and production platforms are set to transform sports coverage. The company also hosted a masterclass exploring how these innovations contribute to the future of live sports.
“Our goal was to show how next-generation broadcasting and refereeing technologies are reshaping live sports production,” Jens Fischer, Broadcast Solutions masterclass moderator, said. “We presented solutions that are available today, bring real value to production, and are proven practical problem solvers.”
Among the innovations was a rain deflector for aerial camera systems developed by PMT, a Broadcast Solutions subsidiary. The device ensures clear pictures in all weather conditions for systems like Spidercam when manual lens cleaning is not possible.
The company also displayed a new Remote Production OB van being built with DMC Production. The software-based concept manages a 16-camera production remotely from hubs in Munich or Hilversum via Grass Valley AMPP, which serves as the central workflow backbone. The system requires only a 100 Mbps internet connection, allowing for high-quality, low-latency production from various venues.
Partner Studio Automated demonstrated an AI solution designed to steer cameras automatically, supporting sports including handball, basketball and football. The system can automate key cameras to provide high production values for tier two and tier three sports, as well as feeds for VAR and FVS.
Other highlights included:
“Every two years SportsInnovation is a unique possibility to demonstrate the next generation of sports production tools to a wider expert audience,” Maximilian Breder, Broadcast Solutions co-CEO, said. “Our presentation of advanced camera technologies attracted a great deal of interest from delegates, and we greatly valued the interactions and comments.”
