NAB Show: GlobalM To Show Distributed Video Gateway

GlobalM SA, a Geneva-based provider of IP media transport solutions, is presenting its GMX Distributed Video Gateway at NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 18-22, in Booth W3736. The software-defined IP media transport platform is designed to replace fixed, hardware-bound contribution and distribution systems.

New at the show is GMDC (GlobalM Device Control), which extends orchestration into encoder and decoder management through direct API integration. This brings codec configuration and network routing into a single operational framework.

GlobalM is also expanding its edge processing with new signal processing services that can be activated on demand. Frame rate conversion and HDR to SDR conversion are now available as software-based functions at the edge, allowing operators to apply processing without deploying dedicated hardware. These capabilities are delivered on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The platform also introduces expanded cloud connectivity and monitoring. New cloud network access points and the introduction of GM Tunnel provide connectivity between cloud environments and on-premise infrastructure. A new cloud-based multiviewer service gives production teams a virtual NOC environment for remote monitoring. GlobalM has also optimized its cloud builds for ARM-based AWS Graviton infrastructure to improve energy efficiency.

The industry shift from fixed transmission capacity toward event-driven, software-controlled infrastructure is reshaping live IP media networks. GlobalM’s architecture separates orchestration from physical infrastructure, defining routing and processing policies centrally. Capacity can be expanded or contracted by adding or removing nodes across cloud, on-premise or hybrid environments.

The platform supports SRT, RIST, RTP, RTMP, HLS and MPEG-DASH. Nodes register with a central control plane to form a distributed transport fabric.

A core element is GlobalM’s patented “Pod” model. Each pod can operate as an ingress, egress or processing node, allowing gateway functionality to be distributed across multiple sites. The result is a virtualized gateway network that can scale while maintaining routing logic.

Health monitoring is embedded within the transport layer. Latency, packet integrity and node responsiveness are evaluated in real time, with resilience policies enabling automated path switching.

Unlike container cluster-based approaches, GlobalM runs natively under OS-level orchestration. The company said this reduces computational overhead and improves recovery times in live broadcast environments.
